WOW! We are so excited to see 2025 Future Female Leaders Program Graduate Nina and her incredible social impact project, Hearts in Yarn, featured on 7NEWS Perth.

What started as a deeply personal idea has grown into a powerful movement of kindness, comfort, and community connection. Through Hearts in Yarn, Nina creates handmade crochet bears and toys, each stitched with care and accompanied by uplifting messages such as “Never give up” and “You are not alone.” These heartfelt creations are gifted to children facing serious health challenges, offering warmth, reassurance, and hope during difficult times.

Inspired by her own childhood experience with leukaemia, Nina transformed adversity into action. Her project is a beautiful example of how lived experience, empathy, and leadership can come together to create meaningful social change.

Being recognised by 7NEWS Perth is a huge milestone — not only for Nina, but for the power of young people leading with compassion. Her story reminds us that impact doesn’t always start big; sometimes it starts with a single stitch, a simple idea, and a big heart.
